Drexel School of Education has identified the CSM Course as a promising new strategy for building math fluency, skills, and confidence for teacher candidates.

Drexel SoE is excited to partner with SeeMore Impact Labs to provide free access to CSM over winter break for all elementary education students!

Why CSM?

CSM is great preparation for Module 3 of the PECT test, and also builds skills for success in your other classes, especially in math and science.

CSM builds deep, intuitive mathematical understanding, including fluent number sense, mental math, mathematical applications, and complex problem-solving strategies. You will finish the course feeling prepared and confident to teach elementary math, with numerical skills you can use throughout your life and career.

CSM is designed for students with math anxiety or who are rusty in their math skills. CSM uses advanced adaptive learning technology to identify your skills gaps, while also personalizing instruction to build persistence, attention to detail, problem solving skills, and more.

How, where, when?

CSM is entirely self-paced and online. It takes 15-60 hours to complete CSM, since it's highly personalized.

All students who complete CSM by January 9th will receive a $50 Amazon or Target gift card.

Personal Coach
You'll be working at your own pace, but you won't be alone. Your personal coach will be Jim Mitchell, engineering Professor Emeritus from Drexel who has completed CSM himself! He'll be checking your progress daily, helping you plan your time, giving advice and encouragement -- he'll be your biggest cheerleader. You'll connect with Jim by Zoom, phone, email, and CSM's messaging system.

My first impression was that the course would be heavy on math skills. Instant anxiety.  But I proceeded.

There were times that I wanted to quit because my frustration level was rising.  There were problems that seemed so obvious but for whatever reason were escaping any effort at solution…  Were there moments I felt like I would never understand what was being asked?  Yes.

What I learned was that I need to slow down, gather as much information as possible regarding what I’m being asked to solve, proceed with caution and check my work. Did I give up? No.

So what did those hours of jotting notes, reaching for my calculator and then realizing I wasn’t supposed to or didn’t need to use it if I just thought about the problem, and the moments of wanting to give up teach me?  That I can overcome fear and anxiety, that I’m not a quitter when the going gets tough, that the skills presented and on which we are challenged involve both soft and concrete skills.

I enjoyed the self-paced tempo and like that it was on my time, in my space and that I could stop at any point and always return to the last place I stopped.  It’s designed to be user friendly, the graphics are easy, the information thorough.

Thanks for the challenge!
